Why Chile

A serious jurisdiction for a serious company

Figures verified against primary sources, as of August 2026.

Ownership
100% foreign ownership

No general restrictions and no local-partner requirement. The SpA — Chile's standard vehicle — allows a single shareholder, resident or not.

Tax
12.5% SME corporate rate

The headline rate is 27%, but qualifying small and mid-sized companies pay a reduced 12.5% rate through 2027 — and most new foreign-owned SpAs qualify.

Treaties
37 tax treaties in force

Including the United States, effective 2024 — only the third U.S. treaty in Latin America. Your distributions home are governed by treaty, not by chance.

Digital
Digital administration

Nationwide electronic invoicing, online company registry, and — since 2025 — a fully digital tax-ID procedure for non-residents through a local representative.

The journey

From decision to operating company

Five stages. We coordinate the first two with a vetted lawyer and run the rest directly.

1 · Tax ID (RUT) as a non-resident
Obtained through a local representative — a fully digital SII procedure since 2025. Handled with the lawyer; no travel required.

2 · Incorporation (SpA)
Bylaws and registration are legal work — the vetted lawyer executes; we review the tax angles before anything is signed.
Lawyer + usDays, not months
3 · Tax registration & first invoice
Start of activities with the SII, invoicing set up, and your first electronic invoice issued. This is where our direct work begins.

4 · Corporate bank account
The slowest step in Chile, and the one nobody can honestly guarantee. We prepare the documentation banks ask for and guide the process — realistic expectations, in writing.

5 · Monthly operation
Accounting, monthly VAT (Form 29), annual return, payroll coordination when you hire — with courtesy reports in English and a named advisor.

Using an EOR today?
Employer-of-record services charge US$599–699 per employee per month. With two or more hires, your own SpA plus local payroll typically costs a fraction — we can model the comparison with your numbers.

Who you'll be working with

You're handing your company to a person, not a portal.

I founded Tax Capital after sitting on all three sides of the table: the bank that designs the products, the controller who reads the numbers from inside, and the tax practice that answers to the SII. When you incorporate here, those are exactly the three perspectives that decide whether your structure holds.

  • Tax specialist. Years advising companies and investors before Chile's tax authority — I know where the SII looks, before it looks.
  • Finance controller background. Your financial statements will be read the way a bank reads them, because that's how I was trained to read them.
  • Wealth & investments. Former Product Manager at Banco Santander Chile — useful when your company and your personal position have to work together.
  • English-speaking team, Chilean practice. A real local firm: 200+ active clients, 98% annual retention, answers within one business day.

Your first consultation is with me — not a sales team, not a chatbot.

One engagement, two workstreams

Clear responsibilities, in writing

Incorporation involves legal practice, which belongs to lawyers. We coordinate a vetted local firm for that step and remain your single point of contact.

Tax Capital runs

Tax review before signing · SII registration and start of activities · electronic invoicing setup and first invoice · monthly accounting and VAT (Form 29) · annual return and sworn statements · payroll coordination · courtesy reports in English · your client portal.

The vetted lawyer runs

Bylaws and incorporation of the SpA · powers of attorney (with apostille when granted abroad) · the non-resident tax-ID filing as your representative · any migration or corporate legal matters. Coordinated by us, billed transparently.

FAQ

What founders ask first

No. The non-resident tax ID is a fully digital SII procedure since 2025, handled through a local representative; incorporation is executed under power of attorney (apostilled when granted abroad). The one step that may eventually benefit from presence is banking — and we tell you that honestly upfront.
Once your documents are ready, the incorporation itself is measured in days. The full journey — tax ID, company, SII registration, first invoice — typically runs in weeks; the corporate bank account is the variable nobody can honestly guarantee. You receive a realistic timeline in writing at the consultation.
Qualifying SMEs pay a reduced 12.5% corporate rate through 2027 (headline rate: 27%); VAT is 19%, filed monthly on Form 29. When you distribute profits abroad, a 35% withholding applies with credits — treaty residents typically end at ~35% total. We model your effective numbers at the consultation. (Figures as of August 2026.)
Employer-of-record services run US$599–699 per employee per month. As a rule of thumb, at two or more permanent hires your own SpA with local payroll costs a fraction of that — and you own the entity, the contracts and the history. We model the crossover with your actual numbers.
Yes. Program-backed founders need the same foundations — entity, tax registration, clean monthly books — plus disciplined expense documentation for grant reporting. That is standard work for us; tell us your program and cohort in the form.
